Quick answer: The Visa Bulletin is the monthly State Department list that shows which green card applicants can move forward, based on priority date, category and country. The current bulletin is November 2026. The December 2026 bulletin had not been published as of November 4, 2026.

Visa Bulletin by month

Older bulletins, back to 2001, are on the State Department Visa Bulletin page.

What the Visa Bulletin tells you

Each bulletin has two charts for family-sponsored and two for employment-based categories:

Compare your priority date with the date for your category and country of chargeability. If your date is earlier, you can move forward. Definitions are in our green card glossary.

When is the Visa Bulletin released?

The State Department publishes it monthly, usually around the middle of the month before it takes effect. USCIS then posts which chart I-485 filers must use that month.
