Who uses Form I-90
Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card, is the USCIS form permanent residents use to renew an expiring or expired green card or replace a lost, stolen, damaged or incorrect one. Source: USCIS Form I-90 page.
Conditional residents should not use I-90. USCIS says that if you have a 2-year conditional card, you file Form I-751 (marriage-based) or Form I-829 (investor-based) to remove conditions instead. See our I-751 guide.
USCIS also suggests checking whether you are eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship before filing I-90. If you are, naturalization may be worth discussing with an attorney.
Step by step
- Confirm I-90 is the right form (10-year card, not a conditional card).
- Use the current form edition. USCIS lists the acceptable edition on the I-90 page and may reject an old edition.
- Choose online or paper filing. Filing online requires a free USCIS online account, which also lets you pay online, check status and respond to requests for evidence.
- Pay the correct fee (see below and our renewal fee guide).
- Complete every required field and sign. USCIS says it will reject an unsigned form, or one missing your family name, mailing address or date of birth in Part 1.
- Attend biometrics if scheduled and track your case online.
Where to mail a paper I-90
As listed on the USCIS I-90 page today: by U.S. Postal Service to USCIS, Attn: I-90, P.O. Box 21262, Phoenix, AZ 85036-1262; by FedEx, UPS or DHL to USCIS, Attn: I-90 (Box 21262), 2108 E. Elliot Rd., Tempe, AZ 85284-1806. Addresses change, so check USCIS for the current address before mailing.
Fee
Fees below come from the USCIS Fee Schedule (Form G-1055), edition dated 10/26/26, as read on October 31, 2026. Fees change; check USCIS for current fees before you file. Filing with the wrong fee can get your form rejected.
| Form I-90 (general filing) | Fee |
|---|---|
| Online filing | $415 |
| Paper filing | $465 |
USCIS lists some $0 categories, for example certain cases where USCIS issued a card with an error or a card was returned as undeliverable. Check the fee schedule for your exact situation.
When to talk to a lawyer
Consider an attorney if your card expired long ago, you've spent long periods outside the U.S., you have any arrests or criminal history, or you're unsure whether to renew or apply for citizenship.
