Will USCIS fees change in 2027?
Some will. USCIS says the fees required by Public Law 119-21 "adjust each year as required by law" (USCIS G-1055); these mainly affect asylum, parole and related work permits. USCIS's own filing fees, such as the I-130, I-485 and N-400, change only through a new fee rule published in the Federal Register, as the 2024 fee rule was. As of November 4, 2026 we have not seen a new general fee rule for 2027.

How to watch for USCIS fee changes in 2027
Check the edition date on Form G-1055 before you pay; if it changed, re-check your fee.
- G-1055 edition date. The G-1055 fee schedule page shows the current edition (10/26/26 today). A new edition usually means something changed.
- USCIS alerts. USCIS posts fee and form changes on its newsroom alerts page.
- Federal Register. A change to USCIS's own fees starts as a proposed rule with a public comment period, then a final rule with an effective date.
- USCIS Fee Calculator. The official fee calculator gives the fee for your exact form and category.
What happens if you pay the wrong fee?
USCIS rejects the filing. The fee schedule says each request must include the correct fee unless you are exempt or get a fee waiver, and an incorrect fee means rejection, so a fee change between preparing and mailing your forms matters.
Should you file before a fee increase?
If a new fee rule is published, filings postmarked before its effective date generally pay the old fee; the rule itself states the date. Don't rush an incomplete application to beat a fee change, because an RFE or denial costs more time. See how to respond to a USCIS RFE.
